Braulio Carrillo Park, Costa Rica

El parque nacional Braulio Carrillo es un área que consta de 47,586 Ha. y se encuentra en Costa Rica, es un área protegida por el gobierno desde 1978 en un esfuerzo por conservar las 6,000 especies de plantas (de las cuales aproximadamente 50 son endémicas), más de 500 especies de aves, algunas endémicas, millones de insectos y miles de reptiles. El parque está dividido en varias secciones y cuentan con diferentes actividades para realizar, extremas o simplemente para relajarse; entre ellas hay senderismo que si llegaras a practicarlo lo mejor sería hacerlo en compañía de un guía porque podría ser peligroso ya que en el parque viven jaguares y pumas; otros animales que podrías ver son dantas (una especie de Tapir), Oso hormiguero, 3 especies de monos, Perezosos, Sainos (una especie de jabalí), Tepezcuintle (o paca), Quetzales, en fin, una variedad enorme de animales.
En esta ocasión fuimos a probar el teleférico, cada cabina es para aproximadamente 5 personas y lo mejor es que no tienen vidrios, son al aire libre, sólo tienen techo y una pequeña reja alrededor; vas subiendo por cables de acero dispuestos en niveles hasta alcanzar unos 50 metros de altura, todo el recorrido es en medio de la selva y dura aproximadamente 1 hora 20 minutos; es un recorrido fascinante, te da la oportunidad de tener una perspectiva de la selva como lo ven los pájaros, ya que cuando alcanzas los 50 metros vas por encima de las copas de los árboles, y durante todo el recorrido vas admirando la flora y fauna de la selva que habita en diferentes niveles.
Nuestro recorrido fue muy emocionante porque era temporada de monzones y cuando íbamos casi al punto más alto empezó a llover torrencialmente, nos quedamos varados como por 40 minutos porque una rama cayó precisamente en el tubo que sujetaba nuestra cabina, esperamos a que llegara alguien del parque y subiera con arneses a quitar la rama, así que tuvimos mucho tiempo extra en el recorrido y fue muy divertido, tuvimos oportunidad de bombardear al guía que iba con nosotros con todo tipo de preguntas sobre Costa Rica, mientras bromeábamos y tomábamos fotografías impresionantes. Fue muy buena aventura y si regresara a Costa Rica volvería a subir al teleférico, ¡la vista y el recorrido son espectaculares!

The Braulio Carrillo National Park is located in Costa Rica, it's whole area is 47,586 Ha. it was created as ecological reserve on 1978 by the government as an effort to protect it's 6000 species of plants (50 of them endemic) it's more than 500 bird species (a lot of them endemic too), millions of insects and thousands of reptiles. The park is divided in several sections each one with different kind of activities, some extreme and some just to relax such as hiking which if you decide to practice I recommend to go with a guide because it could be a little bit dangerous, there are cougars and jaguars living in the park, you could see other interesting animals such as: dantas (a kind of tapir), Ant eaters, 3 species of monkeys, Sloths, Sainos (a kind of wild boar) Quetzales and lots of more different species.
On this occasion we took the cableway, every cable car is for 5 people and the best part is that they don't have any walls or windows, they only have a top roof and some kind of metallic screen that surround them, so you are able to take great pictures. the ride is about 1 hour and 20 minutes and it goes up through the jungle by a system of steel cables reaching 164 feet height giving you a bird's eye perspective, when you reach the highest point you can see all the trees cup down on the horizon.
Our ride was very excited, when we went it was the monzone and of course while we were on the ride and almost on the highest point it started to rain so hard that we couldn't see anything and suddenly the ride stopped, and where stranded for like 40 minutes in the same spot. what happened was that one tree branch broke and fell right in the arm of our car and we had to wait for a worker to come with harness to remove the branch, so we had a lot of extra time on our ride in a very high place having a lot of fun, taking great pictures, we also spent it bombarding the guide with tons of questions about Costa Rica's animals, food, people, traditions and much more.
It was a great adventure, if one of these days I go back to Costa Rica I would go to that park and do that ride again without thinking, the view and the whole experience are amazing!

A esta altura ya estábamos a 50 metros más o menos por encima de los árboles más altos.
This was the highest point, about 164 feet above the trees cup.

Como se puede apreciar, cuando íbamos de salida, el río ya llevaba muchísima agua con todo lo que estuvo lloviendo.
As you can see, on our way out of the park we found that the river grew so much.

Definitivamente recomiendo mucho este lugar, los paisajes son increíbles, y si te gusta la aventura ¡este lugar está lleno de ellas!

WWII Vehicles in Brugge - Vehículos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en Brugge

Andando Bélgica fuimos a visitar la hermosa y mágica ciudad de Brugge, pasamos la noche, y a la mañana siguiente fuimos a caminar para conocer el lugar, cuando llegamos al centro histórico de la ciudad (una plaza impresionante rodeada de edificios estilo gótico de la época medieval y que han mantenido en perfectas condiciones) y nos encontramos con una agradable sorpresa: Una exposición itinerante de vehículos de la segunda guerra mundial, en excelentes condiciones y todos funcionando perfectamente, ya que se transportan en ellos hacia cada lugar al que van a exhibirlos.
desafortunadamente nadie hablaba español y sólo algunos hablaban muy poco inglés, así que no pudimos averiguar mucho sobre esta exposición, las personas que transportaban los carros iban vestidos con atuendos militares, y eso, aunado al escenario le daba un toque más real.

Investigando en internet encontré un artículo del Daily Mail muy interesante, en el que se habla de los "cementerios de carros" de la segunda guerra mundial, se les llama cementerios porque cuando terminó la guerra muchos soldados antes de regresar a sus respectivos países fueron a resguardarlos en algunos bosques mientras arreglaban cómo transportarlos desde sus países (sobre todo de EEUU) pero en el caso de los estadounidenses, el gobierno se negó a pagar el costo de transporte por ser muy alto, tampoco ningún soldado quiso pagar, dejando todos esos vehículos abandonados en los bosques; debido a esto, mucha gente empezó a quitarles piezas para arreglar o armar sus propios vehículos, ya que salía muy caro comprarlas. En la actualidad sólo quedan las carcasas alineadas, cubiertas de plantas y todos estos lugares se han convertido en atractivos turísticos y parajes ideales para sesiones de fotografía urbana.
Volviendo a la exposición, me parece algo sumamente positivo que hayan rescatado todos esos vehículos y estén haciendo esa exposición itinerante ya que positiva o negativamente es parte crucial de la historia mundial.

We were in Belgium so we decided to go to Brugge for the weekend, a gorgeous and wonderful small city, we spent the night and in the next morning we went for a walk to see the city, when we reached the historic centre (a very impressive medieval plaza surrounded by gothic buildings kept in pristine condition) and found a pleasant surprise, there was a very interesting exhibition going on of vehicles from World War 2, all the vehicles are in excellent conditions, and all of them working! (they drive on them from one town to the next one).
Unfortunately nobody spoke Spanish and just some of them a little English, so we couldn't find out much about this exhibition, all the people were dressed on military attire, and with that landscape it felt like you traveled back in time.
Searching for some information about it on the internet, I came across a very interesting article from the Daily mail, it's about all the cars left behind by many soldiers from different countries after the war ended and how those places had become a paradise for urban photographers and tourists alike; those vehicles were stored in some forests by the soldiers while they find a way to retrieved them from their countries specially from the US, in those cases the government didn't want to pay for their transportation and neither the soldiers, so all those cars were left there to rot, so people from around those forests took advantage and dismantled them to fix their own vehicles (parts were very expensive after the war) you can still see all those car cases aligned filled with plants and creating an interesting landscape.
Going back to the exhibition, I think is great they are doing it, besides is educational is also amazing to see all those vehicles exactly how the look at that time, for good or for worse it is an important part of world history.

Going back to Germany we saw the exhibition convoy on the road, it was so exciting to see them rolling together on a single line.

Star Wars Expo, Paris, France

En el año 2006 andando en el metro de París, me llamó la atención un letrero al final del vagón, anunciaba una exposición en CITÉ DES SCIENCES ET DE L'INDUSTRIE nada más y nada menos que "Star Wars: The Exhibition", como buena fan de la saga por supuesto que tenía que asistir, pero como no entiendo mucho Francés no me quedó muy claro de qué trataba exactamente, así que sin saber qué exponían, nos lanzamos a averiguar unos días después.
Me alegro tanto de que hayamos ido porque ¡es una de las mejores exposiciones que he visto en mi vida! El lugar es como un centro de diferentes convenciones, (por lo que entendí la mayoría sobre ciencia) así que es enorme, con ese conocimiento ya se tendrá una idea de la magnitud de la exposición, era grandísima, constaba más o menos de unas 250 piezas, todas originales, utilizadas en las diferentes películas que había hasta esa fecha, y todas las piezas seleccionadas por Lucas Film por supuesto. 
Estaba dividida en varias secciones, te ibas transportando entre cada uno de los 9 planetas de las películas: Tatooine, Naboo, Endor, Hoth, Coruscant, Kamino, Geonosis, Kashyyyk, Utapau y Mustafar y obviamente cada planeta perfectamente ambientado.
Se podían apreciar hasta naves en tamaño real! trajes emblemáticos, maquetas, figuras, bocetos, etc. los detalles en la mayoría de las piezas era impresionante, (sólo los trajes sinceramente no eran muy bonitos, la tela no se veía muy buena) entre todo esto había videos proyectados explicando detalles de cada planeta, así como trucos de filmación para recrearlos. La exposición fue llevada a diferentes países de Europa, así que fue una suerte que nos tocara estar ahí en esa época.

It was the year 2006, we were riding the metro in Paris and suddenly a poster on the back of the wagon caught my attention, it was an advertise about an exhibition at the CITÉ DES SCIENCES ET DE L'INDUSTRIE  and was called "Star Wars: The Exhibition" I HAD to go! I am a huge fan, of course I don't understand much french so I couldn't know exactly what it was about, but a few days later we decided to get there and find out, OH MY! I am so glad we went! It was one of the best Exhibitions I've ever seen in my entire life! The place is a science convention center so you can imagine how big it is, the exhibition had more than 250 original pieces, all of them carefully selected by Lucas Film and of course they were used on the movies, it was divided in sections every section was each of the nine planets of the saga: Tatooine, Naboo, Endor, Hoth, Coruscant, Kamino, Geonosis, Kashyyyk, Utapau y Mustafar and obviously all were recreated as each planet, there were also projections explaining every one of them along with some tricks on how they were filmed. You could see full size pieces and vehicles, wardrobe, puppets, sketches and so on, and the details in most of the pieces were stunning. This exhibition was on tour in some countries in Europe, so we were very lucky to be there at the same time.

Definitely this exhibition is a must see, I investigated a little bit and found out this exhibition is still going, I am sure it's more interesting with all the material added to it, who knows, maybe I can get lucky and see it again (I really hope so). Y el público en realidad eran Q-tips pintados de colores para hacer la ilusión (en cámara) que las gradas estaban llenas.
And the audience were nothing but Q-tips painted in different colors to create the illusion of a crowd in front of the cameras.
