El arte urbano de Bogotá

El arte urbano de Bogotá es impresionante, como en todas las ciudades del mundo también hay mero graffiti sin sentido, pero lo que me sorprendió fue ver la cantidad enorme de arte urbano que existe en esa ciudad; son verdaderas obras maestras, no importa en qué parte de la ciudad te encuentres, si volteas hacia cualquier dirección encontrarás por lo menos 1 mural bien pintado y a parte de todo original. Platicando con la gente me di cuenta que a muchas personas les molesta este tipo de expresión y quieren que el gobierno los remueva.

Un día platicando con un taxista sobre este tema, me contó una historia que no puedo corroborar, así que solamente la repito: Me platicó que hace un tiempo estaba prohibido grafittear, y siempre se castigaba a los que lo hacían, hasta que un día fue el Justin Bieber a dar un concierto y que en uno de los paseos del tal mozalbete llegaron a un paso a desnivel y el cantante le pidió al conductor que se detuviera, entonces se bajó de la camioneta y empezó a rayar una de las paredes, como era de esperarse, la policía no lo sancionó, pero la gente que lo vió hacer esto se enfureció y corrieron la voz de lo sucedido, al día siguiente ya había muchos manifestantes quejándose de porqué a ellos si los sancionaban y a un niñito extranjero nadie le dijera nada, cada vez se fue uniendo más gente a la manifestación hasta que el gobierno decidió asignar paredes para que los artistas urbanos se pudieran expresar, claro que la cosa no quedó ahí, porque no tardaron en manifestarse personas que estaban en contra de que se decoraran las paredes, total que tiempo después el gobierno decide mandar pintar todas la paredes que habían asignado para que todo volviera a estar como antes, pero por supuesto hubo otra manifestación masiva en pro del graffiti y el gobierno cedió nuevamente, volviendo a asignar espacios para los murales con la condición de que tenían sólo 2 meses para pintar lo que quisieran y después de ese plazo, sería ilegal nuevamente.

Repito que no me consta si esta historia es real, pero me pareció muy pintoresca, claro que cabe la posibilidad de que el taxista me viera muy turista y la inventara.

Se la razón que fuere, una cosa es cierta, en Bogotá hay muchísimo talento, ya sea creando murales de protesta, paisajes o retratos; y es fascinante caminar por las calles y admirarlos.

Urban art in Bogotá is pretty impressive, of course just like in any other city from the world there's ugly nonsense graffiti too but most of what you see on the streets of Bogotá is great art, some of them are real masterpieces, you can be anywhere in the city, turn your head in any direction and you will see at least one amazing, original and well painted mural. Talking to people on the street I found out that a lot of them want the murals removed, which is kind of sad.

One day I was riding a taxi and I start talking to the driver about the graffiti and he told me a story, which I don't know if it's real or not, but I'm going to tell it anyways because I find it amusing, he said that some time ago Justin Bieber went to Bogotá and while staying there he went for a ride to the city, when they reached an underpass he asked the driver to stop, got out of the car and start to write and draw random things on the wall (which is prohibited), of course the police didn't say anything to him and he got away with it, some people saw what happened and spread the word and the next day there were people manifesting against the police, so the government decided to give some public spaces to urban artists to do make their art, but then some other people against graffiti were complaining about that, they made so much noise that the government took the spaces back sent them to repaint again with plane colors, but then again the urban artists complained abut that so, as a final decision, the government again assigned some public spaces with one condition: they had only two months to make their murals, and after that was going to be prohibited again.

Again, I don't know if this story is true or not, maybe the taxi driver thought I look too tourist and made the story out, lol in any case, one thing is true, Bogotá has tons and tons of talented people and you can see that all over the city whether protesting, making portraits or landscapes they do it in a very creative way.

Como nota adicional: La Ciclovía es un concepto bastante bueno que creó el gobierno de Bogotá desde hace ya algunos años, consiste en cerrar un tramo de una avenida principal, (121 kilómetros para ser más exactos) todos los Domingos de 7:00am a 2:00pm con la finalidad de que las personas vayan a ejercitarse ya sea caminando, en bicicleta, corriendo o simplemente llevando a pasear a su mascota.

Additional info: The Ciclovía is a great concept created some years ago by the government of Bogotá it consists in closing a big part of an important avenue every Sunday from 7:00am to 2:00pm so people can go and ride a bicycle, run or just take a walk with their pets.
